Fountain Pen Instructions
Getting the ink flowing in a new fountain pen
To prevent ink leakage we ship our fountain pens without ink installed. To install the ink cartridge and get the ink flowing, please follow these instructions carefully.

-
Unscrew the section from the pen body
-
Insert the ink cartridge into the open nib section, pushing in until the cartridge is fully inserted
-
Give the cartridge a few light squeezes and then shake the pen with the nib facing downwards until you get a few drops of ink flowing. The pen should now be ready for you to do some test writings.

In most cases, once you insert the cartridge and start writing the ink will begin flowing very quickly without any problems. Here are a few tips to note if you are having difficulty getting the ink to flow:

-
Make sure you have the ink cartridge fully seated into the nib section. This will break the seal on the cartridge, which you can check by removing and then reinsert afterwards
-
Hold the pen vertical and shake to allow gravity to help get the ink to flow. You can also lightly tap the nib onto the paper to assist with this, being careful not to bend the nib
-
The ink actually flows due to capillary action as the two halves of the nib point are spread apart when pressing down on the paper. This can help to start the flow of ink, pressing down firmly enough to see the gap between the tines of the nib. Repeat this a few times until you can see the ink coming down the gap
-
Stroke the breather hole down to the tip of the nib using a finger or paper towel several times
-
Run the end of the nib under warm water to help start the flow of ink, wiping with a paper towel once flowing
